Help the Vision Bus Aotearoa bring fully funded eye care to children in schools who need it most.
Clear vision is something most of us take for granted. But for many school children across the country, the blurry world they see every day is simply the only world they have ever known. Without an eye test, there is no way to know anything is wrong.
Vision Bus Aotearoa changes that, visiting low-decile schools across Auckland to provide fully funded, comprehensive eye examinations, bringing care directly to children who need it.
With gratitude to our matching donors, Helen and Barbara Blake, and the Buchanan Charitable Foundation for making donations go further. The matched funding may have ended, but you can still support the Vision Bus. Every dollar goes directly to the Vision Bus team.
Every dollar donated goes to supporting the Vision Bus Aotearoa.

One in five children has a treatable vision problem – and most of them have no idea. Their world has always looked this way. In one year alone, the vision bus visited 30 schools, conducted 800 eye tests and dispensed 560 pairs of glasses.
When a child puts on glasses for the first time, the change is immediate: a whiteboard comes into focus, a book becomes readable, a face across the room becomes clear. For many tamariki, it is the first time they have understood what everyone else has always been able to see.

Vision Bus Aotearoa is not just vital for eye care, it’s vital for education. This is not only true for the children in the communities we serve, but also for our optometry students being trained. As well as invaluable hands-on experience, it exposes them to the realities of health inequity and challenges them to think beyond the clinic.

The Vision Bus team is also finding children with amblyopia, eye injuries and conditions such as keratoconus - a serious, progressive eye disease that is more common among Māori and Pacific children and can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated.
For too many tamariki, the distance between them and the care they need is simply too great to cross alone. Which is why we bring the care they need directly to them.
